NEW: Woodstock Solar Community Benefits Update
May 2025
Our goal is to positively impact the surrounding community by re-paving and repairing township and village roads, significantly discounting local electric bills, contributing funds to the Township, and providing an extra layer of safety by offering specialized training and new equipment to North Lewisburg Fire Department.
These newly-announced contributions are meant to offset project impacts and signal to the community that their voice has been heard.
GRID Program
Geographic Return for Infrastructure Development – Monthly utility bill deductions for neighbors of Woodstock Solar
Heelstone is proud to partner with the Dollar Energy Fund, Pioneer Electric Cooperative, and AES Ohio to provide utility bill deductions to neighbors within 1 mile of the project. Depending on the number of participants enrolled in the program, participants will have $50 deducted from their monthly electric utility bill. These deductions will be administered quarterly for 5 years, beginning when Woodstock construction starts.
Road Improvement Project
Partnering with Champaign County, Rush Township, and Woodstock Village to improve roads
To contribute to the quality of road infrastructure surrounding the Woodstock Community and project area, West Bennet Street, Flynn Street, McCarty Road, and Burton Road will be improved. Roughly 3 miles of roads will be involved in the road use and maintenance plan. These road improvements will enable construction vehicles to safely access the project site and ensure that road quality is preserved after construction and into the future, leaving the roads better than before.
North Lewisburg Fire Department
Improving local emergency services
The North Lewisburg Fire Department will receive a significant contribution to support the acquisition of new equipment, vehicles, and specialized safety training.
Tax Revenue
Property tax revenue providing funds to public works for the lifetime of the project
Property taxes levied on the project directly go back to the community and support Champaign County, Rush Township, the Triad School District, Joint Vocational School Districts, Northeast Champaign County Fire District, Health and Medical services, Public Safety, and the Champaign County Library.
Pollinator Habitat and Vegetative Screening
Providing pollinator habitat within the project area and maintaining the visual appeal of the site
A pollinator habitat will be created within the footprint of our project. Pollinator habitats are planted with native wildflowers and grasses that attract pollinator species such as bees, butterflies, and birds. Pollinator habitats can improve soil health as native plant species are often deep-rooted, which reduces erosion and improves soil structure. Pollinators attracted to the area will also help pollinate nearby farms, which can increase crop yield and quality.
Our vegetative screening will incorporate trees and shrubs to soften the appearance of the solar farm to neighbors and community members who frequent the roads alongside the project. Just over 2 miles of vegetative buffers are incorporated into the project site design.
Direct Community Contributions
Rush Township will receive a meaningful financial commitment to support continued road maintenance, cemetery improvements, and other Township responsibilities. Additional funds will be distributed to landowners directly neighboring Woodstock Solar to compensate for any disturbances that could occur during construction or operations of the facility.
